You may want to avoid this area in Rock Island on your commute for awhile. Sixth Avenue between 21st and 22nd streets in Rock Island will be closed starting Monday for the removal of the skywalk at the Rock Island School District Administration Office building.

The road closure is necessary for the safety of the crews performing the removal, as well as the motoring public, according to the City of Rock Island's Facebook page.

The work completion date of the work is set for Oct. 19, but the road will open sooner if the removal is completed sooner, according to the city.

You can expect delays at or near this location. Be sure to watch for trucks entering and leaving the area.

Their Facebook page says, “The City of Rock Island is sorry for any inconvenience due to this work and appreciates the patience and consideration of the traveling public."
