When zoning approval was given in May, it was expected that construction would begin in June or July, with an opening slated for late October.

As of yesterday, there was still nothing more than empty space on the lot at 18th Ave and 27th Street next to the new CVS, and a block away from a former Dunkin' location now occupied by Dr. Gyros.

OurQuadCities.com reports that Dunkin' Donuts announced last month that they would decrease the number of store openings this year, and were scrapping plans for another 50 stores.

According to Local News 4, the Rock Island store is still on track to be built, but no updated construction timeline has been given.

I'm still looking forward to the smell of fresh donuts wafting down 18th Avenue towards my house just blocks away.
