If you're looking for some outdoor Halloween family fun, Illiniwek Forest Preserve, Hampton, is hosting a Halloween event with a costume and campsite decorating contests, hayrack rides, pumpkin painting and trick-or-treating on Oct. 21 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Everyone is invited to camp for the weekend, but you don't have to camp to attend the free celebration.

According to the park's website, the costume and campsite decorating contests are family friendly, and the costume contest will include an adult and child category. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third, place in each contest. Supplies will be provided for pumpkin painting.

Here's the schedule of events:

2 to 4 p.m. Hayrack rides and pumpkin painting
5 p.m. Trick-or-treating begins
7 p.m. Contest winners will be announced

Illiniwek's campground includes 25 primitive camping areas, 17 of which are riverfront, as well as 60 RV sites with water and electric hookups. Sites are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground also has two shower houses, a dumping station, a boat launch ramp (ADA accessible), hiking and biking trails, a picnic shelter and a wooded bluff scenic overlook of the Mississippi River.
