At halftime Saturday afternoon, Iowa State held a 35-14 lead at Kansas State and it looked like Paul Rhoads may have saved his job.

Then, 24 unanswered points in the 2nd half from the Wildcats and a 38-35 loss left Rhoads with nothing to do but wait for his pink slip.

The program didn't waste much time either, informing Rhoads early Sunday morning they were letting him go.  But, he will get to coach the team for their season finale Saturday against West Virginia (11 a.m. on 1170 KBOB).

Rhoads helped break numerous losing streaks and brought the program out from the basement, but was never able to get the Cyclones into the national spotlight.

Iowa State finished over .500 only once under Rhoads, and that was in his first season back in 2009.

The Cyclones haven't been to a bowl game under Rhoads since 2012, and that won't change even with a win this weekend.
