The entire downtown in Bettendorf is getting a facelift including the new 74 bridge. One thing that has remained the same is the fire station, until now.

According to OurQuadCities.com, the State Street firehouse has been awarded a $1.6 million dollar contract for improvements.

The improvements include adding 4,250 square feet and 1,280 square feet to the first and second floors, respectively, in addition to remodeling 4,100 square feet of other city department spaces at City Hall.

The first floor of the addition will add three bays for fire apparatus, new offices for the fire chief and administration in addition to a workshop and space for storage.

Work will begin in six months and expected to be completed in April of 2018.
