Each day I pass by the old Holiday Inn on 53rd between Brady Street and Welcome Way. Each time I pass it I wonder what's next for the hotel. The wrecking ball? A revival? Continuation of the downward spiral towards blight? Sometimes I see a few cars in the lot, a light on in a few of the rooms. Mainly it looks deserted. A ghost from the era when Holiday Inns and their Holidomes ruled family vacations.

The Quad City Times provides an answer. The owners are currently looking at a variety of uses for the site and it seems everything is on the table. Charlie Armstrong, real estate broker with NAI Ruhl Commerical Co., tells the Quad City Times one idea is to anchor the site with a smaller hotel and using the rest of the site for retail and offices. He even said there's even been interest in an out lot.

A smaller hotel could work. I can tell you The Best Western Plus Steeplegate Inn does very well. The new Holiday Inn Express seems to do very well too. A hotel that doesn't look as tired as the current one with a smaller physical plant could work. Retail? Fast Food? Offices? I think any could work on that land. Especially if you have access from both Brady and Welcome Way.
