Cell Phone Restrictions While Driving May Be Hitting Iowa Soon
If there's one thing I can't stand, it's getting stuck behind someone at a traffic light who didn't notice the switch because they're texting. It's a top pet peeve. If you have a similar distaste for it, then this potential new law is probably music to your ears.
Lawmakers in Iowa have advanced legislation restricting cell phone use while driving. According to KWQC, the bill would prohibit using cell phones and other electronic devices unless they are in hands-free mode.
If the bill is officially approved, drivers could be fined $100. The penalty could be even higher if a driver causes an accident while using his or her device. Note: Public safety and health care professionals on the job would be exempt from this policy.
I was pretty surprised to realize this wasn't already the case! Apparently, that's the rule in Illinois but in Iowa there is only a ban on texting while driving.
