Update: The City of Rock Island has also enacted a snow emergency for this weekend. According to the Rock Island website:

"The City of Rock Island is declaring a snow emergency effective at 6 PM, Friday, January 18, 2019. Once snow depth has reached 2 inches, parking is not allowed on any marked snow routes until the snow has stopped and has been cleared. Vehicles parked on marked snow routes may receive a $35 parking ticket. Vehicles that remain in violation may be impounded.

To facilitate snow removal the City is requesting that Rock Island residents not park on residential streets until snow removal is completed.

Questions may be directed to Public Works at 309.732.2200 or pubworksmail@rigov.org."

Are you sick of the snow yet? After a week of having to walk my dog in boots. Slogging through five or six inches of snow. Chapped hands. And writing and reading my fair share of blog posts having to do with snow. Yes. I'm sick of it.  It is my duty, however, to inform you The City of Davenport has issued another Snow Emergency for this weekend starting on January 18.

Local 4 News says the Quad Cities is right on the edge between four and six inches of snow, or six and eight inches of snow. The National Weather Service forecast is indicating six to eight inches of snow. That's the forecast the City of Davenport is using. So they've enacted another Snow Emergency for the City.

Here's what Davenport has posted on their website:

The Snow Emergency will go into effect beginning at 6pm, Friday, January 18th through 6pm, Saturday, January 19th.

Parking on Posted Snow Routes is prohibited when a Snow Emergency is in effect. Vehicles parked on Posted Snow Routes will be ticketed and may be towed.

As an alternative to on-street parking in the Downtown, residents and visitors to the area may park for free in any one of the City’s three parking ramps beginning at 5pm, Friday, January 18th through 7am, Sunday, January 20th.

If last weekend is any indication of how this weekend will go. Davenport will ticket and tow cars left on posted snow routes. And if we do get six to eight inches of snow, expect another snow emergency to be declared for downtown Monday or Tuesday so the City can get snow piles off those streets. Of course at this point, we don't know how much snow we are getting, I'm crossing my fingers hoping it's none. That's probably wishful thinking.
