A former standout running back for the Iowa Hawkeyes, Damon Bullock, died after a fatal traffic crash near his home in Duncanville, Texas early Sunday Morning. This according to a report from the Focus Daily News.

Bullock was driving his Chevy Malibu about 4:00AM CT when he crashed into a metal light poll. Bullock exited his vehicle and was then hit by a car while walking in the street. The driver of the car that hit Bullock called 911 and remained on location to talk with police.

Bullock was transported to an area hospital for treatment where he later succumbed to his injuries.

According to the paper Bullock's Mother wrote on Instagram:

With tears streaming down my face as I create this post I regretfully have to say that we lost our son Damon to a terrible accident this morning. I will never be the same. I don’t know how or what to do. We appreciate every prayer, text, and phone call received. PLEASE PRAY FOR US! I don’t understand. You know OUR name Lord!! Please!!! I am heartbroken.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz released this statement:

 Damon’s tragic and unexpected death is a shock to all of us in the Iowa football program, as well as his former teammates. Damon was an outstanding young man, and we enjoyed him being a part of the Hawkeye football program.

Bullock recorded 1,074 yards and four touchdowns during his career with the Hawkeyes. According to the Des Moines Register Bullock's best game was against Northern Illinois at Soldier Field in Chicago. In his first career start Bullock rushed 30 times for 150 yards and scored the game winning touchdown late in the 4th quarter. Iowa beat Northern Illinois 18-17
