Today in major changes in Illinois: the state is getting ready to legalize recreational marijuana.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Illinois Senate voted Wednesday, and the House voted 66-47 today (after more than three hours of debate) to pass a bill legalizing the substance. Now, it's up to Governor J.B. Pritzker to sign it into law, which is widely expected to happen.

If and when it is, Illinois will become the first state to approve cannabis sales through the Legislature, instead of a ballot measure, according to the Sun-Times.

The bill would allow Illinoisans over 21 years old to possess 30 grams (just over an ounce) of cannabis flower and 5 grams, (less than a quarter-ounce) of cannabis concentrates like hash oil. Additionally, Illinoisans will be able to carry up to a half-gram of edible pot-infused products.

This has been a years-long effort in the state, sped up only recently by the governor's support. What do you think of the new measure?
